An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could perform script/content injection attacks and attempt to trick the user into disclosing sensitive information.\nTo exploit the vulnerability, an attacker could send a specially crafted email message containing a malicious link to a user. Alternatively, an attacker could use a chat client to social engineer a user into clicking the malicious link.\nThe security update addresses the vulnerability by correcting how Microsoft Exchange validates web requests.\nNote: In order to exploit this vulnerability, a user must click a maliciously crafted link from an attacker.","cvssScore":8.8,"cvssSeverity":"HIGH","cvssVector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","cwes":["CWE-1390"],"vendors":[],"products":[],"references":[{"url":"https://msrc.microsoft.com/update-guide/vulnerability/CVE-2026-96940","tags":[]}],"exploitRefs":[],"hasPoc":false,"ai":{"summary":"A weakness in Microsoft Exchange Server's authorization mechanism allows authenticated attackers to escalate their privileges, posing a significant security risk.","exploitability":"Exploitation requires an authenticated user with network access, making it moderately difficult to exploit.","blast_radius":"If exploited, the attacker could gain full control over the affected Exchange Server, potentially leading to data breaches or service disruptions.","remediation":"Upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft Exchange Server as soon as possible.","detection":"No reliable host or network indicator is derivable from the published description.","tags":["auth-bypass","priv-escalation","network","exchange"],"model":"qwen2.5:7b-instruct","analyzedAt":"2026-10-03T08:54:16.968Z"}}
