{"id":"CVE-2022-51026","published":"2026-10-22T19:17:30.883","lastModified":"2026-10-23T19:57:42.660","description":"Bytebase 0.12.0 before 1.0.1 contains an authentication bypass vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to log in as any user. The flaw stems from trusting client-supplied GitLab provider configuration in the POST /api/auth/login/GITLAB_SELF_HOST endpoint. Attackers can set instanceUrl to a server they control that returns an active user with a chosen email. Bytebase then issues session tokens for that principal, letting attackers impersonate existing users including the Owner or create new members.","cvssScore":9.8,"cvssSeverity":"CRITICAL","cvssVector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","cwes":["CWE-290"],"vendors":[],"products":[],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/bytebase/bytebase","tags":[]},{"url":"https://github.com/bytebase/bytebase/blob/1.0.0/server/auth.go#L79-L93","tags":[]},{"url":"https://github.com/bytebase/bytebase/commit/d69e682243b25b51dd52912a26e2f259b5f3db2d","tags":[]},{"url":"https://github.com/bytebase/bytebase/pull/834","tags":[]},{"url":"https://github.com/bytebase/bytebase/releases/tag/1.0.1","tags":[]},{"url":"https://github.com/bytebase/bytebase/security/advisories/GHSA-5r3p-6rj5-7937","tags":[]},{"url":"https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/bytebase-0.12.0-before-1.0.1-authentication-bypass-via-gitlab-self-hosted-login","tags":[]}],"exploitRefs":[{"url":"https://github.com/bytebase/bytebase","tags":[]},{"url":"https://github.com/bytebase/bytebase/blob/1.0.0/server/auth.go#L79-L93","tags":[]},{"url":"https://github.com/bytebase/bytebase/commit/d69e682243b25b51dd52912a26e2f259b5f3db2d","tags":[]},{"url":"https://github.com/bytebase/bytebase/pull/834","tags":[]},{"url":"https://github.com/bytebase/bytebase/releases/tag/1.0.1","tags":[]},{"url":"https://github.com/bytebase/bytebase/security/advisories/GHSA-5r3p-6rj5-7937","tags":[]}],"hasPoc":true,"ai":{"summary":"Bytebase versions before 1.0.1 contain an authentication bypass in the GitLab self-hosted login endpoint (POST /api/auth/login/GITLAB_SELF_HOST) where an attacker can supply a malicious GitLab instance URL, causing Bytebase to authenticate them as any user by controlling the identity provider response.","exploitability":"Exploitation is trivial for remote attackers with network access to the vulnerable endpoint; no authentication or user interaction is required.","blast_radius":"Successful exploitation allows full account takeover of existing users—including Owners—and enables creation of new privileged accounts, leading to complete system compromise and data breach.","remediation":"Upgrade to Bytebase version 1.0.1 or later, which fixes the vulnerability by validating and restricting the GitLab instance URL to trusted domains.","detection":"Defenders should monitor for POST requests to /api/auth/login/GITLAB_SELF_HOST with non-whitelisted or newly registered GitLab instance URLs in logs; anomalous session creation events for users not previously present in the system may also indicate exploitation.","tags":["auth-bypass","web","gitlab","identity-theft","sso"],"model":"garnet-coder","analyzedAt":"2026-10-24T08:57:45.417Z"}}
